Pharmaceutical Advisor

Dr Sittampalam is a pharmaceutical scientist with over four decades of experience in drug discovery, development and repurposing across industry, academia and government. He spent more than 20 years at Eli Lilly, where he contributed to the early development of Humulin, Humalog, Humatrope, Xigris and Gemzar, and helped build the company’s high-throughput screening centre. At NCATS/NIH he served as Senior Advisor to the Director on Science and Technology, and earlier advanced repurposed candidates such as Auranofin and GM-CSF into clinical trials for rare and neglected diseases. He founded the Assay Guidance Manual, a global biomedical resource accessed over 100,000 times a year, and co-founded NewFoundMed.org to advance drug repurposing. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Arizona and is an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University School of Medicine.
